One of New Hampshire’s most iconic animals is the moose – a majority of the more than 3,800 moose can be found in Androscoggin Valley and the Great North. Tourists from around the world come here for the breathtaking sight of a moose. They are large animals, about seven feet tall and can weigh up to 1,500 pounds. They can frequently be seen in marshy areas and along highways licking road salt. Dawn or dusk are the best times to see them.
Some of the best moose watching spots are on Route 16 along the Androscoggin River through an area known as 13 Mile Woods. You can also take the 3-hour guided tour offered by Gorham Moose Tours at the Gorham Information Booth. The Gorham Moose Tours boasts a 95% success rate and will even provide a voucher for a new moose tour if you don’t see one.
